Architects agree incentives needed

The Australian Institute of Architects are supporting calls for incentives for local and commercial buildings to slash carbon emissions beyond what the the federal government's projected carbon trading scheme can achieve. This would then significantly reduce the price of carbon trading permits.
The body represents the peak of Australia's architecture profession. Its report was based on research by the Australian sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC) Climate Change Task Group and was put forth in response to a CPRS Green Paper.
The report is entitled 'The Second Plank - Building a Low Carbon Economy with Energy Efficient Buildings' that uncovers how the nation's building sector can slash up to 52 million tonnes of carbon dioxide annually by 2030. This would exceed the 8 million tonnes from CPRS, and could lead to a 14% reduction in carbon trading permit prices by 2050...
