HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE

For any living being the real wealth is its life, a healthy life. Leo Tolstoy, the author of “War and Peace” observes that “The body is a machine for living. It is organized for that and it is its nature. Let life go on in it, unhindered, and let it defend itself.” The purpose of creation is to live happily. Hence health, of the body and mind, is the real wealth anybody can possess. Let us see how we can achieve this.

FOOD

Everybody knows that the most basic need of any living being is food. But not everybody knows what is the influence of food on our health. There is an old saying “You are what you eat”. This explains everything. The health of the body and mind depends on the quality of the food we take. Unfortunately in this jet-age everything is expected to be fast and we have become the victims of fast foods like pizza, burger, coke etc. The bad thing about these food items is they are highly addictive. The damage they cause to our body in the long run is huge.
The best way to keep good health is to eat more living food than dead food. Living food refers primarily to fruits and vegetables in their natural uncooked state. Fruits are the best food that man can eat. There is no perfect food available to us on this planet than fruit.

LIFESTYLE

Apart from food habits our lifestyle also plays a major role in keeping good health. If we follow a sedentary lifestyle without any exercise we tend to become obese and all the joints of the body become stiff. So exercise must be a part of our life to keep each muscle of our body alive and working. Walking is the best and inexpensive exercise that can be done by anybody. Those who can afford can visit the gyms to keep them fit.
There is no room for bad habits in a good lifestyle. Smoking, drinking alcohol, chewing tobacco are some of the bad habits which destroy the joy of living a healthy life. Smoking not only affects the smoker but harms the other people around also, which is called passive smoking. We have no right to harm other people. It is really a good thing that our government imposed a ban on public smoking.
To achieve good health of the mind there are many ways. Meditation is one of them. It is a part of Yoga, the ancient practice of our forefathers to achieve perfect union of body and mind.

LOVE AND AFFECTION

It is not huge money or lavish lifestyle that makes you healthy. But it is love and affection in the family that makes the life worth living. We see a lot of rich children who get everything they want except the care and love of their parents. Their lives end up as total failure. Hence loving relationships in the family is another important key for a healthy living.

CONCLUSION

The great saint Ramalinga vallalar prays to God that he should be blessed with a life without diseases. Good health of the body and mind is the means of eternal joy. The only thing is we have to start. The distance is nothing; it is only the first step that is difficult. Let us take the first step now.
